Project: palermo well-field treatment facility/southgate soil vapor extraction system

Where: Palermo, Washington

Overview

NGI provided engineering and technical support services as a team subcontractor for the ERRS Region 10 contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project involved the construction of a point source soil vapor extraction system and a water treatment facility for a municipal well field located down gradient from the contaminant source. The water treatment facility consisted of air stripping and disinfection systems. The project required a 17-foot deep excavation for a subsurface structure on a site with high groundwater conditions. Involvement consisted of a geotechnical investigation for the water treatment facility, pump testing and design of the construction dewatering system, evaluation of lateral earth pressures for design of the excavation shoring system, general geotechnical and construction recommendations, technical review of project specifications, as well as inspection and materials testing services during construction. NGI also performed a step flow pilot study for the vapor extraction system to optimize the system for effectiveness and economy.
