Project: newport municipal airport

Where: newport, Oregon

Overview

NGI has provided geotechnical engineering services for a series of upgrade projects at Newport Airport related to installation of MALSR approach lights. NGI’s services began when the FAA first installed three towers to support the MALSR lights. Later, as funds became available, the FAA added six more towers to support additional approach lights and requested NGI to provide a second study. These steel lattice towers were approximately 200 feet apart and ranged from 25 to 100 feet in height. The second study found that the tower alignment crossed a landslide and at the request of FAA, NGI performed a field exploration and designed a buttress to stabilize the landslide. During construction NGI provided construction monitoring services.
