Project: fern ridge dam emergency repairWhere: lane county, OregonOverviewNTI provided technical support to the US Army Corps of Engineers for the Fern Ridge Dam Emergency Repair. In December 2004, the Government determined that the Fern Ridge Dam was in active state of failure and lowered the reservoir pool elevation in order to protect the integrity of the structure and ensure the safety of the public. Loss of the reservoir imposes significant economic and environmental costs to the local community. NTI provided four full-time on-site technicians and a well-equipped on-site soils laboratory for quality assurance inspection and testing. Duties included providing round the clock field and laboratory personnel to monitor the mile long earthen embankment dam reconstruction. Services included in-place nuclear density testing of 800,000 cubic yards of fill placements, qualification and classification testing of fill materials and evaluation of in-situ soils for strength and stress-strain relationships. |
